'One of the most formative short courses I undertook when I was learning to draw was at The University of Sydney. The art and medical faculties combined forces. In the mornings, there were art history lectures on the figure, and in the afternoons we would go to the medical school and draw cadavers. Initially, it was confronting to see dissected limbs, heads and torsos, but once I started drawing, it became fascinating to observe the individual components and learn the structure of the body. Understanding human mechanics helps me translate what I am thinking and experiencing into movement on the page.'
