"Water is an unnatural environment for human beings and therefore every time a person enters the water they are in a competition between themselves and the laws of nature. Those that feel compelled to do so are tackling life head on one lap at a time. The water does not discriminate between elite athletes or weekend warrior, age or ability or the reasons for doing so.
"Where the human form melds into the water it offers unlimited beauty of line and form.
"In relation to my drawings I have used tracing paper for its translucent quality representing water and charcoal as the medium in that it relates to the density of the human form. The two come together in the same way that a swimmer gracefully glides through the water. I focus on dramatic contrasts of light and dark and the playful interaction between water and light over the human form.'"
