PORTRAIT NOT PORTRAIT (2) (2020)
56cm x 56cm
charcoal on paper
My artwork occupies a unique space at the intersection of personal narrative and transformative art. It is not just about aesthetics – it's a deliberate conversation with history, identity and culture.
This portrait is alluring because it exists as both artefact and evidence – marks left on the paper, but also a marker of the tension between observation and interpretation: The model was lithe, with porcelain skin, and the wall had a billowing curtain which held the same hue. Over the course of the drawing experience I entwined them together.
